Just 30-minutes by car outside of downtown Quebec City is Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier (Jacques-Cartier National Park). This is paradise for outdoor lovers. It’s great for a weekend trip or for a single day hiking and doing one activity.
This enormous park has a number of different activities including:
- And more!
They even have their own app and they give you an iTouch’s for your hike! While we were hiking up the trail, we could use the iTouch for information and a map. Signs along the way had a number to reference back to the app and if we pressed on the number, it told us about the area. Smart! They also have their official app called Tourisme Jacques-Cartier which includes a lot more information about the entire park.
The park hosts a number of different activities for kids. We didn’t get a chance to camp here and stay overnight but they had an auditorium and fireplaces for stories and activities. If you forgot a bottle of water or need some extra food, the Discovery Hall has a big shop for most of your needs.
We were given a tour of the camp sights as well. I was told that the camps sell out pretty fast way before the summer even starts. It’s one of Quebec’s favorite activities.
How to get there
You can get there by car by taking route 175 north and exiting 182 towards chemin du Panorama. You’ll start to see signs for the park. It’s easy to find. Public transportation is also available. Renting a car is your best bet. More information on how to get there here.
Camping ranges from $21.50/night for rustic to $34/night for electricity. Ready-to-camp Huttopia tents range from $97/night to $113/night. If you don’t have any camping gear, I’d say the Huttopia tents are really worth it. It’s a great deal and you don’t have to worry about renting tents. They sell out quite fast though and need to be reserved quickly. They also have cabins and yurts available. See more on their prices.
Thank you Tourism Quebec and Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier for giving us a tour, activities, and lunch for the day!
