Les Chemins Invisibles | Cirque du Soleil in Quebec City, Canada

Every year since 2009 during the summer months, Cirque du Soleil has been hosting a free event called Les Chemins Invisibles. Chapter four in the series has just ended on September 1st called The Pixel Frontier. Next year will mark the last year of the five year contract Cirque du Soleil and Quebec City made and completing the full five chapters in the series.

Les Chemins Invisibles hosted their show under a bridge right outside of the walls of Quebec City. Hundreds of people gathered up near the enormous stage in front of us. It didn’t feel overwhelmingly packed but definitely a lot of people. It amazed me that the entire thing was free.

At sunset, a child’s dreams take the public on a voyage into the heart of his imaginary world. An extraordinary universe where traditional meets virtual, and where the child becomes aware of the beauty of human contact through scintillating exchanges that multiply all around him.

Performed outside under the Dufferin highway overpass in Quebec City’s downtown area, right in the heart of the Saint-Roch district, The Pixel Frontier — the fourth chapter of the Les Chemins invisibles event created by Cirque du Soleil — combines acrobatic performances, dance, music and multimedia, all in the signature Cirque du Soleil style.

The show started with a smiley face guy making random sounds as if he lost the ability to speak but was still communicating with the audience. He was the best character because he was hilarious. There was only two faces his digital face could make, a smile or a sad face. When we had to cheer and it wasn’t good enough, he put on a sad face.

My favorite part were the two trapeze girls. They flew high and caught each other from a single shared swing. There was literally no room for error. The guy on the two ropes was also amazing. You probably need so much upper body strength for any of that.

If I had known, I would have rather gotten one of the seats on the side for better pictures but they had to be reserved ahead of time.

Let us know how Chapter 5 goes next year!
