The VIP Colosseum Tour in Rome

We were walking distance from the Colosseum so we saw it every day for the week we were in Rome. Our Colosseum tour with Walks of Italy was towards the end of the week so it was killing me that we were was passing by the Colosseum every day but haven’t been inside yet. What I didn’t realize was that we were going to get the chance to go to places in the Colosseum that very few people get access to.

There’s only a few tour companies in the world that are allowed access to the main stage, underground part of the Colosseum, and the very top for an overall view the whole thing. There’s probably even fewer that offer it in a quality tour too. If you’re on your own, you just go in with everyone else in the crowded seat sections with no explanation of this amazing structure. I wish we had more time on the top though. I was going picture crazy.

We’ve all seen hundreds of pictures of the Colosseum but actually seeing it in person was more impressive than I’d imagined.

The tour also included a walk around the Forum which was one of my favorite sections of Rome. It was so impressive to me that everything was in sight all out in the open outside. Basically an outdoor museum. I kept trying to imagine what Rome was like back then. I wish I took a separate tour of just the Forum because I felt it had gone by too quickly. A separate article on this is coming up.

The Colosseum and Forum may have been my favorite part of Rome.

For awesome walking tours in Rome and a unique experience you can’t get anywhere else, check out Walks of Italy.

Cool read. Actually, you can book directly with the colosseum museum on their official website to do the underground tour and the top levels. I guess not many people know of it and the phone system is only in Italian (I speak spanish, so kind of understand the jist). However, after many tries,I also did the dungeons and the top of the colosseum. It is pretty cool right?

The forum is larger than I thought too, did you know that across the street of the forum are the gladiator barracks? I stumbled upon them on my last day. I can’t believe that it wasnt on my map! I went in August 2012. Are you still there now? I love the pictures, brings back many memories.

Thanks for the info! Did you still have to take a tour and/or reverse a spot with them to get to those sections?

Yeah, months in advance, not usually my type of travel but, I really wanted to see those dungeons.
