Marrying Stephanie will mean that the DC area will be another place I can call home. I’ve been spending the last several weeks here and I’m already feeling comfortable and at home. I’m getting to know the area quite well and even made some new friends in the area. There’s a monthly meetup of travelers and bloggers, plenty of awesome bars, and huge selection of delicious international foods. I’m feeling good about being here for awhile and making this my homebase while I work on my business and organize our trips.
I wanted to show my family this awesome city and introduce them to Stephanie’s family. Stephanie and I took on the huge task of hosting Thanksgiving. It was stressful deciding which dishes we were going to cook and it was the first time we’ve ever cooked a turkey. Once we knew what we were going to cook and with some planning, the food turned out quite good. Everyone loved the food and we had plenty of leftovers. It turned out to be a huge success.
When I invited my family to visit, I knew I wanted them to stay downtown. Hotels downtown are not cheap though and they wanted to stay for one week. I brought up that they should try staying in an apartment. They weren’t sure at first since they never knew there were sites where you could rent apartments for a few days but after some convincing and reassuring that it’ll be better than a hotel, they loved the idea. We booked with Wimdu.com for my family to stay near Dupont Circle in DC.
It was better than any apartment we’ve stayed at. It was like a cross between staying at an apartment and being in a hotel. There were signs on how to use AC/Heater, where to put the towels, the Wifi password on the desk, a binder full of maps and information, while still having everything a normal apartment would have like a kitchen, living room, and bedroom. The apartment was very well organized for guests. This made them feel comfortable.
Now my family has totally converted to renting apartments while they are on vacation.
Thank you to Wimdu for providing the accommodation in DC.
