Steph here! Although we travel together, Michael and I could not have more different packing styles. He tends to cram everything in his backpack in a big jumble, while I take a more measured, organized approach. I like being able to find my deodorant or earrings without throwing everything on the floor and sifting through the contents.
I’ve tried a lot of different packing systems from cubes to compression sacks to rubber bands, and I tend to use a mix of different styles. Recently, the company TravelOn sent us a big box of travel related goodies. Michael told me to have at it and for the past few months I’ve been using some of their really handy products to keep myself organized and looking good.
I’ve been cramming my stuff in the same old rei toiletry kit for ages now, and it worked fine but this was definitely an upgrade. This case can fit a ton of stuff including some full-sized toiletries. It has a lot of separate compartments which is handy if anything decides to explode in transit (this happens to me constantly). All the compartments are clear which makes it easy to find stuff, and even though it’s huge when unzipped, it folds up fairly compactly. It’s a bit large for a weekend trip, but for a longer trip it’s just perfect.
This hard core security bag would have been great when I was backpacking through South America. It’s slashproof with a cut-proof cable that can be chained to just about anything. Would be great for storing passports or cash while out and about. That said it is a bit heavy to lug around- but in high security situations it would be worth it.
Although I don’t personally carry that much jewelry when backpacking, this is a great little kit for when you might be going somewhere fancier like a wedding or conference. I usually pack up both make-up and jewelry inside and throw it in my weekend bag.
Have you ever had a bottle of wine explode in your backpack? I have, and I have no desire to repeat that traumatic experience. For years I’ve had a no wine in the backpack rule, but with these plastic triple sealed ziplocs I might give it another try. They won’t actually protect the bottle from breaking but they will definitely contain the mess.
I have been searching for the perfect travel purse for literally years now and I’m pretty sure this is it. I’m seriously in love with this bag that is pretty yet still secure. It’s slashproof, cross-body and has a sturdy top zipper which can be double locked with a lobster clasp, all of which make it mega-safe in pick pocket prone areas. Even better it’s roomy and attractive enough to wear around town without feeling like a schlubby traveler. This purse is coming to Mexico with me and I might even buy a second one, that is how much I seriously love it.
Overall I’m definitely a fan of TravelOn products. They aren’t cheap but they are quality, which is important on long trips when you need things to just work. Even better, their functional. Now I can feel smug and organized while Mike searches the bottom of his bag for socks yet again.
